Gyllyngvase Voluntary Beach Lifesaving Patrols

The RNLI is not currently providing its usual lifeguarding service at Gyllyngvase beach, and it is unclear when this will be reinstated. In the meantime, there is a real risk of accidents involving beach users, and this will become even more important in the coming weeks during our busy summer season.

Volunteers from Gyllyngvase Life Saving Club have been providing beach patrols every day between 10 am and 6 pm. They have over 30 trained volunteers already giving up their time, including many former RNLI lifeguards, and those who would have otherwise been lifeguarding this summer. Volunteers have been observing the beach, providing advice to beach users, and taking measures to prevent incidents, and have already carried out several rescues to prevent drownings.

So far, they have relied on the basic equipment and supplies of the club and its volunteers. In desperate need of additional equipment and PPE to carry out voluntary beach patrols effectively over the coming weeks.

The club has launched a Crowdfunder to raise £1500 for the  equipment mentioned above and have already raised £895 towards this target at the time of going to press including a donation of £100 from FBRA. If you would like to assist in making up the balance of just over £600 you can do so on their website

To acknowledge the strength of our community it would be a nice gesture to add after your name FBRA member if you were to  consider donating. Thank you if you do.  You can donate anonymously or not at all. You can find out more about the club by clicking here.
